Bridgestone B-Limited BX Driver ReviewScoring the BX TOUR MAX (Sep 18) and BX★★TOUR (Oct 9) on build and numbers

Updated: Nov 2, 2026Contains affiliate links

I average a score of 72 and play 150 rounds a year. I scored this one seriously.
The B-Limited BX TOUR MAX / BX★★TOUR scores 3.4 out of 5. A custom-only model released Sep 18, 2026, it's a driver for golfers who test it and dial it in to suit themselves. I cross-check head material, construction and weight placement against official specs and third-party test reviews, and write up the good points and the concerns in numbers. Around launch there are still few third-party reviews, so the score is provisional and leans heavily on official documents.

Hit:In October I hit a BX TOUR MAX (9°) 10 times on an indoor TrackMan. At 46 m/s clubhead speed it gave 245 yards of carry and 2,600 rpm of spin, about 6 yards shorter than the QUANTUM I measured the same day (251 yards). Of two shops near me, only one had one to try, with a two-week wait for a slot. I only gripped and addressed the BX★★TOUR; I haven't hit it.

The Gear Nerd's Bottom Line Overall ★★★★★ 3.4 / 5

"A driver for golfers who test it, then dial it in through custom order." Because it's custom-built, you can match it closely to your own swing.

Buy it if

  • Golfers who can get a trial and fitting at a direct store or event
  • Golfers who prize stability and can give up a little distance (TOUR MAX)
  • Fast-swinging draw hitters (★★TOUR)

Bottom line: how I'd choose

"A driver for golfers who test it, then dial it in through custom order." Because it's custom-built, you can match it closely to your own swing.
If I had to name one weak spot, it's "few places to try it, and a high price."

Model differences and how to choose

Both models share the same base: 460 cm³, a carbon semi-monocoque structure, and custom-order only from ¥99,000. What sets their character apart is where the weight sits and how much they draw: the TOUR MAX puts about 35 g at the back for maximum stability and forgiveness, and the ★★TOUR has a 55° lie that reduces draw, for better players who want to hit hard without worrying about the left.

Construction through a gear nerd's eyes

The body is Ti811 titanium cast by lost-wax investment casting, the face is HS titanium, and the sole and crown are hot-press-formed carbon. Each part is made by a different process in a Japan-made head, and you can see the effort that went into it.

The ★★TOUR changed from the previous BX1★TOUR as follows: volume 445cc to 460cc, lie 57° to 55°, and carbon now extends to the sole as well. Making the lie 2° flatter is a setting that plainly aims to "not send it left." The TOUR MAX's standard shaft, the VENTUS BS6Ⅱ, is 58 g with torque 4.8, heavier and stiffer than the previous B3MAX standard (50 g, torque 6.7). The head leans toward stability, but the shaft is for players who can swing, a pairing that fits a series built around fitting.

What still earns credit

Ayaka Furue used the TOUR MAX at the Japan Women's Professional Golf Championship and said, "Even if I lose 5 or 10 yards, I want the stability" (GDO). The ★★TOUR got a test review calling it easy to address with a soft feel.

The ★★TOUR is in the 60g range, the TOUR MAX in the 50g range. The shafts the maker chose show the character

The BX★★TOUR goes on sale Oct 9, 2026. The official page lists 4 shafts you can choose from for each model (checked Oct 6).

On the ★★TOUR, the standard 58g is the lightest. The other three run 62 to 66g.
The TOUR MAX is the reverse: the standard 58g is the heaviest, and the other three are 53 to 56g.

Even with the same ¥99,000 head, the player the maker has in mind differs by 10 g. If the shaft in your driver is in the low 50 g range, the 3 ★★TOUR shafts are too heavy.

Moving from the standard to the NX WHITE or TOUR AD EK costs ¥22,000 more, and the RIP+ costs ¥27,500 more (my calculation). I'd start by swinging the standard BS6Ⅱ, and choose one of the upper three only after I know the weight is too light.

Numbers from 10 shots: 6 yards shorter than the QUANTUM

In October I hit the BX TOUR MAX (9°) 10 times on an indoor TrackMan. Clubhead speed was 46 m/s and ball speed 68 m/s. The shape at address was rounded, and I liked it. I only gripped and addressed the BX★★TOUR; I haven't hit it.

Carry245 yards251 yards
Spin2,600 rpm2,700 rpm

Against a VENTUS TR RED 6S (60-gram class), the TOUR MAX's 50-gram shaft felt light, and my hands got unruly at the transition. The 60-gram class matched my timing and the shaft's recovery.

The custom order takes 3 weeks and costs about 20,000 yen more than the QUANTUM. With a 6-yard carry difference, I judged the value of dialing it in by custom order to be small. It felt right for players at 46 m/s or more who want to shape the ball. At 44 m/s or below, it's safer to try it first.

Places to try it are few. I asked two shops near me, and only one let me hit it, with a two-week wait for a slot. For a month after release, demo-day slots fill up. The single demo club on a shop floor had a stiff shaft.

Call ahead and ask about the shaft's flex before you go. That way you can avoid showing up on your booked day and hitting a flex that doesn't suit you.

My call:I don't plan to buy one. The carry gap to the QUANTUM is 6 yards or less, it would cost about 150,000 yen, and I can't earn that back. Spin was about the same too, 2,600 rpm against 2,700 rpm.

TOUR MAX or ★★TOUR: which suits you?

Bridgestone doesn't give a target swing speed in numbers. If you can get to a Bridgestone store or event, a demo and fitting before you decide is the surest way to buy this series. If you'd rather compare at a big-box store, a model you can demo nationwide, like the Srixon ZXi RKT, is another way to go.

Price and where to buy

The standard VENTUS BS6Ⅱ is ¥99,000 (tax included), the SPEEDER NX WHITE and TOUR AD EK are ¥121,000, and the TENSEI 1K Pro Orange RIP+ is ¥126,500 (checked with Bridgestone's official information on Oct 6, 2026). I couldn't find a new one from a Japanese retailer on Rakuten Ichiba right now. You can see used ones in the box below.

About the writer and sources

I play about 150 rounds a year and average a 72. I read the official specs with an eye on which numbers matter on the course.

I wrote this by comparing numbers from the makers' own materials, not from hands-on use. How to compare them was my call. Last updated Nov 2, 2026.
