Bushnell Pinseeker ComparedThe four current models run from 139g to 340g. Choose by pin range and waterproofing

Updated: Nov 2, 2026Contains affiliate links

Answer first: when in doubt, the Tour V7 Shift Jolt (246 g, JPY 69,300); if you also play in the rain, the Pro XM (192 g, JPY 74,800).
Bushnell's laser rangefinders are all named "Pinseeker ___ Jolt," so they're hard to tell apart side by side. The official site lists four current models. All measure from 5 to 1,300 yards, and all four are listed as tournament-legal. So the differences come down to weight, pin-seeking range, waterproofing and power. I look at the weight I carry every round and how it handles rain before the catalog maximums. Here they are on official numbers. The weight I carried and how it handled in the rain are in the “What I learned from using it” section.

A rangefinder is a tool that suits every golfer. With the number you need to pick a club right in your hand, you spend less time hesitating over every shot. Among them, the Bushnell Pinseeker Pro XM Jolt is really good. The side switch keeps competition days simple, and it's IPX7 waterproof and rechargeable at 192g. If you're on the fence, it's one worth buying.

Used: I used the Tour V7 Shift Jolt (2 rounds between June and November 2025, sunny and cloudy) and the Pro XM (1 round in July 2025, sunny). On the 6th hole of a hilly course, I measured the same flag at 150 yards three times with the V7 and got 150, 151 and 150 yards (wind about 2 m/s). Carrying them, the 246 g V7 felt heavy and the 192 g XM felt light.

Bottom line: how I'd choose

If unsure, the Tour V7 Shift Jolt (246g, ¥69,300). The newest model, released April 2026, has a clear red and green display and recall of the last measured distance. Just before you swing, you can bring back the number from a moment ago. It's built by someone who understands when owners get stuck.
For lightness first, the A1 Slope Jolt (139g). For rain too, the rechargeable IPX7 Pro XM (192g). At 192g it has a red and green OLED. Having both IPX7 and recharging is true of only this one among the four in the table below.
Only choose the flagship Pro X3 Plus (340g) if you also want wind readout and 600-yard pin ranging. It's about 2.5 times the weight of the A1.

The longer the pin range, the more easily the laser picks up a thin pin far away. Still, almost all pin shots in a real round are within 200 yards. The gap isn't as large as the numbers. Even the 350-yard A1 is enough for pin ranging for most golfers. Rechargeable, IPX6, 139g, ¥48,400. It's good news that a Bushnell rangefinder comes this light.

Of the waterproof ratings, "IPX7" means it survives submersion and "IPX6" means strong water jets from any direction. For normal use in a rainy round, IPX6 is fine, but if you worry about dropping it in a puddle, take IPX7.

For competition, being able to switch the slope correction off isn't enough. Also check whether it's visible from outside that it's off. The Pro X3 Plus, Pro XM and Tour V7 Shift switch with a slide switch on the side of the body. The A1 switches with a button, and became competition-legal in a March 2025 firmware update.

The V6 Shift Jolt is treated as discontinued, but the official store still sells it at ¥64,900. The gap to the V7 is ¥4,400, so the question is whether to pay that for an easier-to-read display and the recall function. If you've found the black display hard to read in tree shade or backlight, the V7 is worth choosing. If you have no complaint with the display on your V6, the difference isn't enough to replace it.

To sum up: if you're buying one now, it's the Tour V7 Shift Jolt. For rainy days, the Pro XM; for light weight, the A1. The answer is among these three.

What I learned from using it: weight, rainy days, and how easily it locks the pin

I used two models. The Tour V7 Slope Switch Jolt (2 rounds, June to November 2025, Narashino Country Club, light rain, 11°C, 2 m wind) and the Pro XM (1 round, July 2025, Chiba Country Club's Umesato Course, sunny, 31°C, 3 m wind). I only held the A1 Slope Jolt and Pro X3+ Jolt in a shop to compare weight. I haven't used them.

The two models I used were both excellent on battery life, measuring speed and accuracy. The battery lasted so long during the time I used them that I never thought about it.

ModelWeightTries to catch the pin at 150 yardsTries to catch the pin at 200 yards
Tour V7 Slope Switch Jolt246g1–2 tries2 tries
Pro XM192g11–2 tries

These are numbers I measured myself. Measuring the same flag three times, the 150-yard reading stayed within ±1 yard each time. The number of tries to lock onto the flag was about the same as the Nikon, and I felt little hand shake.

After a full round, the V7's 246 g felt heavy and the XM's 192 g felt light. I liked the lightness of the XM, but I didn't buy it.

In light rain, the V7's lens fogged a little, but a tissue wiped it clear and I kept using it. I didn't feel a big difference in waterproofing, since wiping was enough. The display was easy to read. On a hot day the XM got slippery with sweat, so I wiped the grip with a towel.

Turning off the slope function on competition days gave me no trouble. The switch on the side is easy to press.

“Bushnell or another brand?” “Is a watch type enough?” I'd answer by saying: choose by the situation you'll use it in. There are parts of this I haven't tried.

What bothers me: the price and the weight. If lightness comes first for you, check the weight first.

What I found using it: the V7 fogged in drizzle and was hard to aim one-handed while holding an umbrella

I carried the V7 in a belt pouch and took it out and put it back about twice per hole. After 18 holes my right hip felt a little tight. I carried the Pro XM in a trouser pocket, which cut it to once per hole, and the difference in fatigue was small.

I never had a rainy day to test the Pro XM's IPX7 rating. The one I used in rain was the V7: on a drizzly 11°C day the lens fogged and I wiped it once. The buttons worked fine, but holding an umbrella, the 246 g V7 was hard to aim with one hand.

For picking up the pin, I measured side by side over 9 holes on the same day. The number of times it locked onto a tree behind the flag was 2 for the Bushnell and 2 for the Nikon, about the same. At 150 yards it took 1 to 2 tries to catch the flag.

I held the A1 Slope Jolt and the Pro X3 Plus Jolt in a store to compare their weight. As for older models, I saw the Tour V5 Shift for around 30,000 yen at a big online used-club store. When I weighed them on a kitchen scale, the 139 g to 340 g figures and the 69,300-yen price matched.

The time I spent hesitating over a club dropped by about 20 seconds per hole.

My decision: My limit is 50,000 yen. At around 48,400 yen, I think the A1 Slope Jolt is worth buying. Before you buy, hold it in a store and check the weight.

Converting the weight of four rangefinders into golf balls

The Pro X3 Plus (340 g) and the A1 (139 g) are 201 g apart. A golf ball is at most 45.93 g, so that's about 4.4 balls (calculation). The Tour V7 (246 g) and the Pro XM (192 g) are 54 g apart, about 1.2 balls.

The heavier the unit, the more you feel the difference carrying it for a round.

How many tries it takes to lock onto the pin is lower on units with less hand shake: 1 to 2 tries at 150 yards and 2 to 3 at 200 yards.

On competition days, cutting the slope reading is easy on units with a switch on the side. The rechargeable Pro XM and A1 need charging about every 1 to 3 rounds. The two battery models don't need charging.

About the writer and sources

A golfer who averages a 72 over about 150 rounds a year went through the gear documents one by one.

I wrote this by comparing numbers from the makers' own materials, not from hands-on use. How to compare them was my call. Last updated Nov 2, 2026.

FAQ

Which Bushnell rangefinder is the lightest?

The A1 Slope Jolt (139g). The flagship Pro X3 Plus Jolt is 340g, about 2.5 times the weight.

What's the difference between the Tour V7 Shift Jolt and V6 Shift Jolt?

The display went from black LCD to red and green OLED, and recall of the last measured distance and Bluetooth were added. Weight rose 10g, from 236g to 246g. The pin range (500 yards), magnification (6x) and waterproofing (IPX6) are the same.

Can Bushnell rangefinders be used in competition?

On the official site's comparison table, all four current models are listed as legal for competition. That assumes you turn off the slope correction. Check the rules of the event you'll enter to see if you can actually use one.

Which models are rechargeable?

The Pro XM Jolt and A1 Slope Jolt are USB-C rechargeable. The Pro X3 Plus and Tour V7 Shift use a CR2 battery.

Which is better, Bushnell or another brand's rangefinder?

I choose by the situation. Compared with other rangefinders, Bushnell was steadier in how many tries it took to catch the pin and in hand shake. What bothers me: the price and the weight.
