You want a small, light rangefinder, but you still want slope. This is for that choice: the Bushnell Pinseeker A1 Slope Jolt Orange, on sale in Japan since Oct 16, 2026. The short answer: if you want one rangefinder with slope, it is a buy at ¥43,989 to ¥48,400 (prices shown by Rakuten shops on Nov 2, 2026).
What I did with it: I used the Orange for about six rounds from mid-October. The rounds were on flat courses in the Kanto area: 4 sunny, 1 cloudy and 1 in light rain, with 2 or 3 friends in 4 of them and alone in 2.
- A downhill pin at 150 yd read in one shot.
- On a downhill shot, a straight-line 150 yd showed as 143 yd with slope on.
- At dusk, a pin at 230 yd with the sun behind the green took three tries. On a small-flag, elevated green, it sometimes picked up the trees behind.
- I kept the 145 g unit in the cart pocket and put the BITE magnet on the cart post from the second round. For the 5 rounds after that, it stayed put, even on a drizzly day.
- It felt a little bigger than the Nikon rangefinder I used before, but not heavy enough to bother me in a pocket.

Bottom line
The A1 Slope Jolt Orange is a 145 g rangefinder with a slope on/off button, Jolt (a vibration when it locks onto the flag) and the BITE magnet skin. One question decides it: is a pin range of 350 yards enough? In about six rounds, my problems were backlight and trees behind the flag, not distance.
The numbers come from Bushnell Golf Japan's product pages, which I re-read on Nov 2, 2026. The differences are my own math.
Jolt cuts the number of shots you take
Compared with the Nikon I used before, Jolt responds faster. You feel the vibration when it catches the flag, so you know the reading is done and measure fewer times. In bright light, I found the display easier to read than the Nikon's.
When the flag was hard to see in the evening backlight, I changed where I stood and measured again. The battery never ran out while I had it.

What do slope, Jolt and the magnet do?
- Slope: a button switches between slope mode and straight-line mode. On competition days I check once before the start that I know how to turn slope off.
- Jolt: when you finish measuring a thin target like a flagstick, the unit vibrates to tell you.
- BITE magnet skin: the silicone cover on the right side holds a strong magnet, so it sticks to steel such as a cart frame or an iron.
Put the magnet on the cart post
One thing other articles rarely mention: if you put the BITE magnet on the cart post, you take the unit out of your pocket less often. I attached it from the second round, and for the next 5 rounds it didn't fall off, even on the drizzly day of October 28 or on bumpy cart paths. Mounted on the post, it saves the hassle of pulling it in and out of a pocket, and you get it in hand faster.
How it compares on weight with other Bushnell models
| Model | Weight | Difference from the Orange (145 g) |
|---|---|---|
| A1 Slope Jolt Marine | 139g | Orange is 6 g heavier (+4.3%) |
| Pro XM Jolt | 192g | Orange is 47 g lighter (-24.5%) |
| Tour V7 Shift Jolt | 246g | Orange is 101 g lighter (-41.1%) |
| Pro X3 Plus Jolt | 340g | Orange is 195 g lighter (-57.4%) |
It is 47 g lighter than the Pro XM and 101 g lighter than the Tour V7. The trade-off: pin range drops from 500 yd to 350 yd. Most approach shots are inside 200 yd, so 350 yd should be enough for many golfers.
Orange vs. Marine (two official pages side by side)
Size (36 x 95 x 60 mm), magnification (6x), range (5 to 1,300 yd), pin range (350 yd) and the BITE magnet skin are the same on both A1 Slope Jolt pages. The pages differ in three places:
- Weight: Marine 139 g, Orange 145 g
- Charge time: Marine 2 hours, Orange 4 hours
- Tournament use: the Marine page says it can be used in competition. I could not find that line on the Orange page. If you plan to use it in competition, check with Bushnell and your event's rules before you buy.
Both pages call it Bushnell's smallest and lightest ever, so it is natural to read them as color variants of one line. I only used the Orange, not the Marine.
My log of the 6 rounds I used it for: dates and weather, plus one downhill shot and one backlit one
I played the 6 rounds with the Orange. Round 1 was October 14, on a flat Kanto course, sunny and 18°C, with 2 friends. Round 2 was October 19, cloudy and 15°C, alone. Round 3 was October 24, sunny and 15°C, with 3 friends.
Round 4 was October 28, light rain and 12°C, with 2 friends. Round 5 was November 1, sunny and 14°C, alone. Round 6 was November 3, sunny and 16°C, with 2 friends. I measured about 30 to 40 times per round.
The downhill 150-yard shot was on the 7th hole, a par 3, in round 2. The straight-line 150 yards read 143 yards after slope compensation, and on the same hole the Nikon COOLSHOT PROIII STABILIZED, with slope on, read 144 yards. The difference was 1 yard.
The evening backlight was in round 3, around 4 p.m. on October 24. I had to redo the measurement of the pin 230 yards away 3 times: twice because the flag was small and lost in the afternoon sun, and once because it locked onto a tree in the background. In the end I moved 3 steps to the right, put the sun behind me, and got the reading.
I didn't charge it once over the 6 rounds. I charged it fully on the first day, October 14; after round 3 it showed about 80%, and when I last checked on November 3 it was at about 55%. The 145 g unit felt a little bigger than the Nikon I used before, but its weight didn't bother me.
Before you buy, test-measure in a shop on a small flag on an elevated green and in evening backlight. If you won't use the slope, or you play only a few rounds a year, 48,400 yen is on the expensive side.
What I like
- At 145 g it fits the cart pocket and Jolt responds fast. You feel the vibration when it catches the flag, so you measure fewer times.
- Slope on/off is one button. A straight-line 150 yd downhill showed as 143 yd with slope.
- The display is easy to read in bright light, and the BITE magnet holds it on the cart post.
What to watch for
- In evening backlight, I redid the measurement of the pin 230 yards away 3 times: twice because the flag was small and lost in the afternoon sun, and once because it picked up a tree in the background.
- On a small-flag, elevated green, it sometimes picks up the trees behind.
- Pin range stops at 350 yd, shorter than the 500 yd of the Pro XM and Tour V7.
- IPX6 comes without a guarantee of operation in rain.
- It felt a little bigger than the Nikon rangefinder I used before.
Who is it for?
Great for you if you
- Golfers who want one rangefinder with slope
- Golfers who want 145 g and a magnet for the cart post
- Golfers who will check how to turn slope off before the start on competition days
If you play only a few rounds a year, a cheaper model without slope will do the job.
Price and where to buy
Bushnell lists it at open price. On Nov 2, 2026, Rakuten shops showed it from ¥43,989, and several at ¥48,400 (prices vary by shop). In that range, it is a buy for anyone who wants slope in a single unit. See the buy box above for shops and today's price.

Update history
How I made this article
I read Bushnell Golf Japan's pages for the Orange and Marine and did the weight math myself. I used the Orange and played about six rounds from mid-October. The figures in the box near the top are what the unit showed on the course. I have not used the Marine, and the only rangefinder I compared it with was my old Nikon.
