Rankings【Nov 2026 Update】Best Women's Fairway Woods 2026The 3 I picked, from loft, weight and price by club
Updated: Nov 3, 2026Contains affiliate links
The trouble of a ball that will not get up shrinks when you choose by loft, not by the number on the club.
Among women's fairway woods, #1 is the PING G LE 4, #2 the XXIO 14 Ladies and #3 the Bridgestone B-LD.
If a club says '5-wood', you'd assume every maker's is about the same, right? Not so.
The PING G LE 4's 5-wood is 23°. The XXIO 14 Ladies' 5-wood is 20°, and 23° is its 7-wood. That's one club number off.
I average 72 and have shot 68, and I'm a gear nerd who normally spends my time studying how clubs are built. I lined up all nine by loft instead of club number. You can work out which club to carry, and how many, if getting the ball off the ground is your problem.
What I learned holding it in a shop: I held the PING G LE 4 at a golf shop in October 2026. I saw the 23-degree loft of the 5-wood with my own eyes, and the head felt light. I did not hit it; I only held it. The 3-wood I used for comparison was the 15-degree 3W in a bag, not my own. The XXIO 14 Ladies, the B-LD and the 4th to 9th places I only looked at in a shop. I also have no impressions from women who have used these ladies' models. The ranking in this article is based on official numbers only.
The Gear Nerd's Pick
1st place: PING G LE 4 Fairway Wood (60,500 yen) 18 degrees for the 3-wood, 23 for the 5, 28 for the 7 and 33 for the 9. Of the nine, it has the most laid-back loft. A ball on the ground is harder to get up than a teed-up ball, and the less loft a club has, the more clubhead speed it needs. PING kept the club numbers and made the real loft bigger. It is built so that a player who finds the 3-wood hard can hit a club labeled 3 normally. I rate this trade-off highly.

Bottom line
First, whether you need a 3-wood at all.
In Golf Digest Japan's measurements, a player at 40 m/s head speed carried the 5-wood 11.6 yards farther than the 3-wood. XXIO's guide for the L shaft is up to 35 m/s. Most players using a women's L shaft can do without a 3-wood at around 16°.
If you carry two, make it around 20° and then 23 to 26°. Leave everything below that to hybrids.
If your current 5-wood and 7-wood get off the ground, there's no need to replace them.
Ranked by how laid-back the loft is, weight and price
A fairway wood is a club you hit from the ground to carry the ball far. The most common complaint among women golfers is not getting the ball up. So I looked at loft first.
- Loft. How many clubs have more than 20°.
- Weight. Total weight of the 5-wood (or the club that corresponds to it).
- Price. Manufacturer's suggested retail price.
The material is each maker's official Japanese spec sheet. I couldn't find any third-party measurements of Japan-spec women's clubs.

Why This Order
| Rank | Model | Why I ranked it here |
|---|---|---|
| No. 1 | PING G LE 4 | 3-wood 18°, 5-wood 23°, 7-wood 28°, 9-wood 33°. The most loft of the nine, and the only one with a 33° wood. The weight (about 278g in the 5-wood) isn't on the light side, but I took the easier launch. |
| 2nd | Dunlop XXIO 14 Ladies | 5 clubs from 16° to 26° build a set with no gaps. The 5-wood in L is 275g. Why it misses #1: the 3-wood at 16° and the 4-wood at 18° are lofts that are hard to get airborne, and at ¥64,900 it's on the pricey side. |
| 3rd | Bridgestone B-LD | The 4-, 5- and 7-wood are ¥35,200, the cheapest of the 9. The 5-wood is light at 271g, and the 7-wood sits a bit lofted at 24°. I put it #3 because the line stops at the 7-wood, so nothing above 26° is available. |
Since this is a club for getting the ball up from the ground, I looked first at how laid-back the lofts are. Change the criterion and the ranking changes. Reread it by whichever criterion matters to you first.
#1 G LE 4: 23° on the 5-wood, all-in on getting the ball up
The G LE 4 sets its lofts differently from the other eight. The 3-wood is 18°, the same as other makers' 4-wood. The 5-wood is 23°, other makers' 7-wood. The 9-wood is 33°. The XXIO 14 Ladies' 8-iron is 34°, so you get almost the same loft in a wood shape.
Why is that good?
The shape. A wood's center of gravity is lower and deeper than an iron's. At the same loft, the ball launches higher. For players who can't get a 7- or 8-iron up, a 28° or 33° wood is an easy way to cover that distance.
PING says it designed the head to keep spin stable even when the strike point shifts up or down. Released Apr 9, 2026.
The weak point.
It's heavy. About 278g in the L-flex 5-wood isn't on the light side of the nine; it's 8g more than the lightest, the Honma T//WORLD for the Queen at about 270g. And if you trust the club number and think '5-wood, so close to 200 yards,' the distance won't match. Re-measure it as a 23° club.
#2 XXIO 14 Ladies: five clubs from 16° to 26°, no gaps in the set
The XXIO 14 Ladies comes in five clubs. 3-wood 16°, 4-wood 18°, 5-wood 20°, 7-wood 23°, 9-wood 26°. Standard models are available all the way to the 26° 9-wood (L shaft).
The 5-wood weighs 275g in L. Each step down adds about 4g, and the progression is clean from the 16° 3-wood to the 26° 9-wood. Dunlop says it's a women's-specific design with a thinner lower face. A ball on the ground tends to get hit low on the face, and they've worked on exactly that.
Why I didn't put it first: how it thinks about loft. 16° on the 3-wood is hard to launch for players up to 35 m/s head speed. Even with five clubs, many players will only use the 5-wood and below. The price is ¥64,900, too, ¥29,700 more than the B-LD 5-wood.

#3 B-LD: the 5-wood at ¥35,200, 271g
The B-LD is cheap and light. The 4-, 5- and 7-wood are ¥35,200, nearly half price. Next to the XXIO 14 Ladies at ¥64,900, the gap is ¥29,700. The L-flex 5-wood is 271g, about 7g lighter than the G LE 4.
The 7-wood is 24°. Quietly good. Other makers' 7-woods are mostly 22 to 23°, so this one sits 1 to 2° more lofted.
Buying all three, the 4-, 5- and 7-wood, comes to ¥105,600, still ¥24,200 less than two XXIO 14 Ladies clubs at ¥129,800.
The weak point is that the line stops at the 7-wood. If you want a wood above 26°, it's the G LE 4 or the XXIO. The official page doesn't list a release date.
Nos. 4 to 9: how to choose among the other six
- Honma T//WORLD for the Queen: about 270g in the 5-wood, the lightest of the nine. Three clubs, up to the 22° 7-wood.
- PRGR CRYSTAL egg: its lofts line up almost exactly with the XXIO, and it's ¥15,400 cheaper. There's no 9-wood.
- Onoff FAIRWAY ARMS LADY: ¥46,200. The A shaft in the 5-wood weighs 294g, 15g more than the L. It stands out for having an option for players who can swing it.
- Callaway QUANTUM MAX FAST Women's: you can adjust the loft on the 3-wood and 5-wood. From ¥67,100, the most expensive of the group.
- TaylorMade Qi4D MAX LITE WOMEN'S: 15° on the 3-wood, 18° on the 5-wood. The strongest lofts of the nine. For players who can launch it.
- Yonex EZONE GT WOMEN: 286g in the 5-wood, the heaviest of the nine.
Who has other good options
- Players whose current 5-wood or 7-wood gets off the ground reliably
- Players who just can't hit the 3-wood (pull it out before replacing anything. Do you need a 3-wood? has the measured numbers)
- Players who top or chunk a lot (loft won't fix that. It's about where you strike the ball)

Update history
What I learned holding it in a shop
The only one I held was the G LE 4. At a golf shop in October 2026, I saw the 23-degree loft of the 5-wood with my own eyes. The head felt light.
I did not hit it, so I do not write about distance or feel. The only thing I checked is how light it felt in the hand.
What I hesitated over was the length for women. I would not buy it myself, so I took the side of writing the criteria for the reader to choose by. The 3-wood I used for comparison was the 15-degree one in the bag; I hit 10 balls with it on indoor TrackMan for 235 yards of carry. The slip I nearly made was to write as if I had hit it when I had only held it in a shop. I have decided to write only what I actually used.
When you choose, please hold the club in a shop before you decide. If there is a model you can hit, hitting it first is more reliable.
About the writer and sources
Written by a golfer who averages a 72 and plays about 150 rounds a year, and who likes comparing gear numbers side by side.
This is an article that compares official numbers side by side, not an account of hitting the clubs. I only held the G LE 4 in a shop and only looked at the others. The subtractions and re-sorting are mine. Last updated: November 3, 2026.
FAQ
Should women carry a 3-wood?
Often you don't need one if your head speed is under 40 m/s. In Golf Digest Japan's measurements, players at 40 m/s carried the 5-wood 11.6 yards farther than the 3-wood. XXIO's official guide for the women's L shaft is up to 35 m/s, so starting from a club around 20° suits better.
What's the loft of a 5-wood?
It depends on the maker. In these nine it ranges from 18° to 23°. The TaylorMade Qi4D MAX LITE WOMEN'S is 18°, the XXIO 14 Ladies is 20° and the PING G LE 4 is 23°. Compare by loft, not by club number.
How many fairway woods should women carry?
Two is a rough guide: one around 20° and one at 23 to 26°. For the distances below that, decide between a hybrid with similar loft by which you hit more easily. If two clubs are within 2° of loft, you can drop one.
What's the cheapest women's fairway wood?
Of the 9 compared here, the Bridgestone B-LD 4-wood, 5-wood and 7-wood are the cheapest at ¥35,200 (MSRP incl. tax; checked Oct 7, 2026).
