ShoesNew Golf Shoes 2026A gear nerd compares eight models by weight, width and lacing, and picks three

If you have ever had a shoe slip on you in the rain, you can choose golf shoes by the numbers too.
Golfers study every number on their clubs, then buy shoes on looks. I think that's a waste, because per-shoe weight ranges from about 280 g to about 420 g, a 140 g spread. In true gear-nerd style, I lined up twelve new 2026 models by the numbers and picked three. For wide and light, the Mizuno NEXLITE ENERZY II; for grip and stability, the FootJoy PRO/SL; for size range and price, the adidas CODECHAOS 27. Comfort depends on the shape of your foot, though, and the answer changes from person to person. That's why this article uses the makers' published numbers (weight, width, closure), which read the same for everyone. Always try them on before you decide.
What I learned trying them on in a shop: I tried on the Mizuno NEO IMPACT and the NEXLITE ENERZY II in a shop. My size is 26.5 cm and my width is 3E. With the NEO IMPACT I could confirm there is some room at the toes. I have not worn them on a round, so I cannot yet write about slipping in the rain or about tiredness after walking 18 holes. The shoes I wear now are Mizunos about 3 years old, and the grooves in the soles are worn down. On the 18th hole after the rain, I slipped while walking on the wet rough. I only looked at the other shoes in a shop.
If you're choosing for width and lightness
Mizuno NEXLITE ENERZY II (BOA ¥18,700 / laces ¥15,950) At about 280 g per shoe (26.0 cm), it's the lightest model in this lineup. The standard is 3E and the WIDE is 4E. If you have wide feet and nothing fits, it's the first pair to try. Prices are GDO's reference selling prices.

If you value grip and stability
FootJoy PRO/SL (BOA ¥29,700 / laces ¥26,400) A tour-oriented spikeless shoe, now in its sixth generation. It's said to be about 10% lighter than the last model with about 30% more grip. It comes in three widths: narrow, standard and wide. Prices are shop prices.
If you want big sizes or a lower price
adidas CODECHAOS 27 (laces ¥18,700 / BOA ¥22,990) A model with a wide size range, 24.5–31.5 cm. One shoe weighs about 380 g with laces and about 420 g with BOA (25.5 cm). It's the first to use "AXISLOCK," which flexes when you walk and resists movement in the swing.

Best new golf shoes 2026: bottom line
For wide and light, the Mizuno NEXLITE ENERZY II (about 280 g, 3E/4E).
For grip and stability, the tour-oriented FootJoy PRO/SL. For big sizes or price, the adidas CODECHAOS 27, which goes from 24.5 to 31.5 cm.
But with shoes, fit to your foot is everything. Even at the same 26 cm, sizes differ by maker, so try them on before you choose.

The Gear Nerd's Take: shoes are gear you fit by the numbers, like clubs
1. Weight runs from 280 g to 420 g per shoe
Published weights run from about 280 g for the Mizuno NEXLITE ENERZY II to about 420 g for the adidas CODECHAOS 27 BOA, a gap of about 140 g per shoe (the size measured differs by model).
If you walk 18 holes, lighter shoes tire you less, while heavier shoes often have a firmer base. As with club head weight, light isn't better than heavy or the reverse. What matters is whether it suits your stride and swing.
2. For width, read each maker's notation
Mizuno uses 3E (standard) and 4E (WIDE), New Balance 2E, FootJoy three widths of narrow, standard and wide, and ECCO uses EU sizes (39–47). If you choose by "26 cm" alone, the width often doesn't fit.
If you have wide feet, the quickest route is to start with the two Mizuno models that come in 4E.
3. BOA or laces
BOA (a dial-tightening system) is easy to retighten mid-round. Laces let you vary the tightness across the instep and are often cheaper for the same model (the CODECHAOS 27 is ¥4,290 cheaper with laces).
Key models (from the makers' descriptions)
Mizuno NEO IMPACT series (Sep 4–18)
Mizuno says it analyzed the swing every 1/300 second and changed the stud layout by area of the sole. Compared with the same maker's HAZARD ENERZY, it reports cushioning up about 24% at the forefoot and about 15% at the heel. It carries a one-year waterproof warranty and comes in 3E and 4E. The differences by model number are in Mizuno NEO IMPACT compared (five model numbers by width, weight and price).
FootJoy PRO/SL (Feb 13)
A sixth-generation tour-oriented spikeless shoe. It uses the three-layer "Z-TEC" upper and a new last that tightens the heel and widens the toe. It's said to be about 10% lighter than the last model, with about 30% more grip.
adidas CODECHAOS 27 (Jul 10)
It's the first in the series to use "AXISLOCK," aiming to flex when walking and hold steady in the swing. BOOST cushioning runs across the whole sole. Compared with the previous CODECHAOS 25, the part that handles grip is 20% wider.
ECCO BIOM C5 (Feb 13)
A model that pairs the "BIOM NATURAL MOTION" foot-shaped design with a new "E-TTS" outsole. It uses GORE-TEX SURROUND (360-degree waterproof, breathable). In August the top model, the BIOM C5 PREMIUM (¥59,400), also came out, using leather from ECCO's own tannery and a metal BOA.
Puma SHADOWCAT NITRO 2.0 (Mar 6)
The high-rebound "NITROFOAM" is 5 mm thicker than the last model, and the shoe is about 16% lighter. It comes in two types: laces, and DISC with a dial.
Update history
Sep 17, 2026: I confirmed the waterproof warranty (one year) for the Mizuno NEO IMPACT series and NEXLITE ENERZY II BOA on the official online product pages, and fixed the table note and the FAQ. I also changed what the NEO IMPACT numbers are compared against from "the previous model" to "HAZARD ENERZY."

Choosing golf shoes: weight, width and closure
There are three criteria. The first is weight: from about 280 g to about 420 g per foot, a gap of about 140 g (420 g − 280 g, my subtraction). The second is width: Mizuno comes in 3E and 4E. The third is the closure, BOA or laces.
On the Mizuno NEXLITE ENERZY II, BOA is 18,700 yen and laces are 15,950 yen, a gap of 2,750 yen (my subtraction). If you also play in the rain, add the depth of the sole grooves to this list.
What I learned trying them on in a shop
What I tried on were the Mizuno NEO IMPACT and NEXLITE ENERZY II. My size is 26.5 cm and my width is 3E. With the NEO IMPACT I could confirm there is room at the toes. I did not walk in them, so the only thing I checked is the fit.
I have played 0 rounds in them. Slipping in the rain, and tiredness after walking 18 holes, cannot be judged from trying shoes on in a shop. With my current shoes, the soles of my feet feel tight after 18 holes.
My current shoes are Mizunos, about 3 years old. The sole grooves are worn down, and on the 18th hole after the rain I slipped on the wet rough. I deal with it by taking smaller steps.
What I hesitated over was slipping in the rain, and what decided it was the depth of the sole grooves. If I chose again, I would try them out after trying them on in a shop. I recommend this order to people who play in the rain too.
