IronsTaylorMade IronsLofts and prices for the Qi MAX, Qi MAX LITE, P790, P8CB, P770 and P7CB
Updated: Oct 30, 2026Contains affiliate links
TaylorMade irons split into the forgiveness-first Qi line and the P line for better players. With P790 and P770 side by side, you'd expect each number to change the character a little. It's simpler than that. Through a gear nerd's eyes, the P line splits into just two groups by 7-iron loft. The numbers come from the official news releases.

Bottom line: how I'd choose
For forgiveness, it's a choice between the Qi MAX (28° 7-iron) and the Qi MAX LITE (31° 7-iron). Want distance, take the Qi MAX. Want height and light weight, take the MAX LITE.
In the P line, the distance-minded P790 and P8CB are 30°, and the workability-minded P770 and P7CB are 33°.
What I most want you to watch for is older Qi MAX LITE stock. It has the same name as the 2025 version, but the 7-iron loft is 4.5° different.
Irons: 7-iron lofts run from 28° to 33°
| Model | Release date | Best for | 7-iron loft | PW loft | Set price at launch (incl. tax) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jan 29, 2026 | Forgiveness and distance | 28° | 42.5° | 6 pcs (#6–PW, AW) ¥178,200 | |
| Jan 29, 2026 | Forgiveness and light weight | 31° | 44.5° | 6 pcs (#6–PW, AW) ¥178,200 | |
| Mar 14, 2025 | Better players, distance-minded | 30 deg | 44 deg | 5 pcs (#6–PW) ¥159,500 | |
| Aug 22, 2025 | Better players, soft forged iron with some forgiveness | 30 deg | 44 deg | 5 pcs (#6–PW) ¥148,500 | |
| Sep 6, 2024 | Better players, workability (hollow soft iron) | 33° | 45° | 5 pcs (#6–PW) ¥159,500 | |
| Sep 6, 2024 | Better players, workability (forged soft iron) | 33° | 46 deg | 5 pcs (#6–PW) ¥148,500 |
The Qi MAX LITE is a different product from the 2025 model with the same name. The 7-iron is 26.5° on the 2025 version and 31° on the 2026 version, a full 4.5° more loft. The official store also lists the older model as a sale item, so always check the release year when you buy.
The Qi MAX has a 28° #7, the strongest loft among this maker's irons. For golfers who struggle with long irons, there's also a "combo set" (6 clubs, ¥196,900) that swaps the #6 for a rescue.
The P line is easier to follow if you split it into two by loft, not by the number in the name: the P790 and P8CB are 30°, the P770 and P7CB are 33°. I also compare the P790 in the iron rankings.
What are the P8CB lofts? A club-by-club table
The P8CB has a 30° 7-iron and a 44° PW. From 24° at #5 down to PW, each club adds 3° to 5°. It's a forged soft-steel cavity back built for Asian golfers, with a ceramic core in #5 to #8.
| Club | Loft | Lie angle | Length (MODUS3 TOUR 105) |
|---|---|---|---|
| #5 | 24° | 61.5° | 38 in |
| #6 | 27° | 62 deg | 37.5 in |
| #7 | 30 deg | 62.5° | 37 in |
| #8 | 34° | 63° | 36.5 in |
| #9 | 39° | 63.5° | 36 inches |
| PW | 44 deg | 64° | 35.75 in |
The 30° 7-iron matches the P790. From #8 down the steps are 4° to 5°, so a 48° wedge slots in neatly below the 44° PW.
